THE COLOR LAB

(33-minute video of a hands-on visual art activity):
Join art educator, Stacie Birky Greene, in creating an art experiment using color! You will need white paper, watercolors, a brush, a small sponge, some water and a white crayon. Get ready to be amazed by what you can create in our COLOR LAB!






PERCUSSION LAB

(10 minute video of hands on music making activity):
Are you ready to create and play your own percussion instrument? Join Troupe members, percussionists, and music teachers, Sasha Stone and Joseph Nelson, to learn about percussion. Make your own instrument (you can use plastic eggs, jars, or plastic containers and fill them with beans, rice, little rocks, sand, etc.) and learn to move and play some very cool rhythms together in our PERCUSSION LAB!







RAP LAB

(an interactive music activity to create and perform silly raps):
Kids of all ages can easily compose and perform their own silly story rap and perform it over some very exciting rhythms. This game was created by Troupe member and multimedia and music teacher, Jason Berman. All you have to do is follow the on- screen prompts! You can do this activity many times and perform all kinds of silly rap concoctions and zany musical fun in THE RAP LAB!

THE WORD LAB

THE WORD LAB: (a fun pdf activity booklet to download and print):
For delightful puzzles and games about our show and show music, download and print our 8 page pdf booklet! Kids of all ages will enjoy doing these great literacy-based activities together. Troupe member and music teacher, Joan Li, created a whole lot of fun in this wonderful easy-to-follow booklet. Get your pencil or pen ready for activities, creative writing, illustrations, and the 5 W's of storytelling in THE WORD LAB!

About the Troupe…

Now in its 11th year, the SDSU Performing Arts Troupe is under the direction of master theater artist Jerry Hager and Dr. Nan L. McDonald, Professor Emeritus, San Diego State University. This talented group of SDSU Music Education Majors, credential students and new music teachers are well known for their literacy themed performances and educational materials, their original music and humor, and delightful interactions with family audiences throughout San Diego County.
